Before You Dive In

From where I stand, edibles are a wonderful thing that’s only getting better. I can’t stand smoking, and that’s across the board: cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and yes, herb. The act of lighting something on fire and inhaling it is not and never will be my thing. For the longest time, that is what largely kept me from trying cannabis. Okay, that and perhaps buying into some of the “Reefer Madness” mentality (did you catch that reference to cigarettes as “harmless”? lol) that a great many still subscribe to.

But edibles, y’all. [insert sound of angels singing here] No smoke or smell of weed lingering in the air or your clothes, just yummy goodness and a nice buzz. Here’s the thing though: edibles work a little differently, and even people accustomed to smoking cannabis have to adjust.

You know how you drive when you spot a cop in your rear view mirror? If you’re new to edibles, exercise that same caution. Start with a lower dose — try 5 mg — and wait for it. Seriously. It can take up to two hours for the THC to kick in fully, so don’t reach for more until you’ve got a handle on how much you can … handle. Here’s a nice little dosing chart for reference.

We good? Cool. Now go ahead and get your kite on!
