Baked Betty PB & Chocolate Krispy

As a kid, Rice Krispy treats were one of the first things I learned to make (yes, even then I had my priorities in order). And when I got the genius idea to substitute Cocoa Krispies, you couldn’t tell me nothin’. Despite expanding my culinary repertoire, sometimes I get an itch that only a Rice Krispy treat can scratch.

Fast forward roughly (mumble mumble mumble) years and enter cannabis-infused crispy treats by Baked Betty. Taking an approach similar to a young EdBl, the company expands on the tried and true recipe and makes crispy treats in a variety of flavors: caramel, chocolate, churro, cookies and cream, peanut butter and chocolate, and rainbow. They’re all hybrid, so flavor is the only variation.

When I unwrapped my peanut butter chocolate treat, the smell was a mix of the sugary chocolate I associate with Cocoa Krispies (see, I was on to something!) and weed. No peanut butter detected. Each 100mg package contains two individually wrapped 50mg treats that you can divide as you like.

The bottom of the package includes a dose cutting chart, but as clearly stated, it doesn’t reflect the actual size of the treat, so I’m not sure how helpful it is. I used the eyeball method to cut the treat in half, more or less.

The taste was similar to the aroma–chocolatey with some bitterness, but no real peanut butter flavor. The bigger issue for me was the texture. The treat was very dry, not gooey and chewy like the best Rice Krispy treats. As a result, these aren’t that enjoyable to eat. The length of time it took for the cannabis to kick in and the intensity of the high were both about average.

If I’m feeling sentimental about my childhood, these may hit the spot, but it’s unlikely they’ll be in my regular rotation. I’d put them in the same category as a Subway sandwich: it’ll get the job done, but it won’t be that memorable.
